Exhibition “Survivors: Faces of Life after the Holocaust”

February 7 - 16:30 - 17:15

Free

From January 29 to February 26, 2025, the moving exhibition “Survivors: Faces of Life after the Holocaust” by renowned photographer Martin Schoeller will be on display at the ECB. In the rooms of the historically significant Grossmarkthalle, 56 of the original 75 impressive portraits of Israeli Holocaust survivors are on display. Between 1941 and 1945, over 10,000 Frankfurt Jews were gathered in the Grossmarkthalle before their deportation. The exhibition is being held to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. The recordings were made in collaboration with Yad Vashem, the international Holocaust memorial. The large-format photographs, taken at close range, bear witness to the struggle for survival of the people portrayed. Every wrinkle, every look tells us their personal and collective story, tells of the atrocities they experienced and the triumph of having survived and built a new life. The pictures not only show the strength of these people, they also remind us of the legacy of the Holocaust survivors. The exhibition invites visitors to engage with the impressive stories and biographies of the survivors. In this way, the memory of their experiences is preserved for future generations.
